Watch Strap Sizing Guide
Watch Strap Width (Lug Width)
The lug width of a watch refers to the distance between the inside of the lugs where the watch strap attaches (see image below). The lug width varies for different timepieces and typically ranges from 16mm to 26mm, with 20mm being the most common. It's an essential measurement to know when selecting a watch strap to ensure a proper fit.
How do I determine the lug width of my watch strap?
Place your watch on a flat surface with the watch face down. This positioning allows for easier access to the lugs and ensures a stable measurement. Using a ruler or caliper, carefully measure the distance between the inside of the lugs. Position the measuring tool at the widest point of the lugs, ensuring it's parallel to the direction of the strap.

Buckle Width
The buckle width refers to the width of the end of the strap where the buckle attaches. Keep in mind that the lug width of the strap may not be the same as the buckle width (see info on strap tapering below).
Watch Strap Tapering
A tapered watch strap has a narrowing width from the lug end to the buckle end. This not only enhances the overall appearance of the watch but also contributes to a more comfortable wearing experience. The process of creating this tapered look requires precision when cutting out the strap.
For our watch straps, they are typically tapered by a difference of 2-4mm. A strap that measures as 22/18mm has a lug width of 22mm and tapers to 18mm at the buckle end.
